Day 44: Droning Pai
Drone video of Pai, Thailand. Music by Glenn Simonelli
“YOU have restored my belief that I haven't completely disappeared,” Emma wrote to me after I hit the road yet. “Not sure you will get what I mean but I thought had lost what was me from what happened. Not usually this Frank and open.. Hope it didn't make you feel uncomfortable... Just kinda felt like right time, right place to be honest for a change.”
These sort of compliments make me more bashful than a school boy making eye contact with the sexy teacher he's crushing on. I have to agree with her though, we fell right into the unbridled rhythm of too old friends.
“Half tempted to jump on the bike in the morning,” she wrote.
“You can always give the dice a roll. Would be a good story that way,” I reply. This would be the start of Emma's Dice Dice Life.
However, in this particular case, she realizes that if she rolls and the die doesn't let her come to Pai that would suck – a lot.
So she decided to drive up early tomorrow and hangout with me for the day in her old stomping grounds.
Emma has demons in Pai exorcise from when her business, house and entire life was here. So, together we re-explore the town creating drone videos as we go.
Memorial Bridge in Pai is dedicated to the road improvements made by the Japanese during WWII between Chiang Mai and Pai as they looked to create efficient troop and equipment transport into Myanmar (then-Burma). Video: Isaac Stone Simonelli
